Phillips named Defender of the Year, South takes All-Star Game
DOWNINGTON, Pa. -
Junior Kelly Phillips added to her 2007 Salisbury University women’s lacrosse season resume as she was named Division III National Defender of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced last Saturday (June 16) during the annual North-South All-Star game weekend at the United Sports Training Center.

Phillips, the first-team All-American, All-Chesapeake Region and All-Capital Athletic Conference honoree, led a Sea Gull defense that ranked eighth in the country in scoring defense as it allowed only 6.83 goals per game.

The Massapequa Park, N.Y. native ranked second on the team with 39 ground balls, added 15 caused turnovers and controlled 27 draws.

Fellow teammates and seniors Katie Simmons, Stephanie Shores and Natalie Degele participated in the All-Star game as members of the South team coached by SU front man Jim Nestor. The South won the game 6-3 as Simmons had a game-high two points on one goal and one assist while Shores scored a goal of her own.
