Tournament Information
This is a round-robin event with the tournament winner decided by the best
overall record.
Ties will be broken based on the following criteria:
1) Head to head results;
2) Win-Loss % among total games played;
3) Point differential;
a tie will be declared if these methods fail - there will be no play-off for
first place.
Preview
The Sea Gulls (8-7) enter the tournament after finishing second at the Maryland
State Championship Tournament last week. The Gulls fell to host Frostburg 3-0 in
the final match and finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. Junior hitter Brittany
Mister and sophomore setter Abbey
Petrecca received all-tournament team honors for their performance.
SU defeated Mary Washington in a final pre-tournament tune-up on Wednesday
evening, winning 3-1 (30-25, 36-38, 30-22, 30-23) and improving to 1-1 in the
Capital Athletic Conference.
“This tournament is one of the best Division III
tournaments in the region,” said Salisbury Head Coach Margie
Knight. “Juniata is ranked No. 4 right now and will be a great match. We
have to turn our game up and play some great volleyball."
The Gulls are led statistically by junior outside hitter Lindsay
Lawson, who has a team-high 168 kills this season, and senior defensive
specialist Kim Rementer, with 247
digs. Salisbury is averaging 12.0 kills per game, 10.3 assists per game, and
16.6 digs per game.
“Lou Ward is our leading percentage
hitter and our secret weapon," said Knight. "The team shouldn’t be
underestimated despite our lack of height.
We have an all-around solid team and are ready for Friday,” she added.
Following the tournament, the Sea Gulls return to
conference action with a visit to Goucher on Tuesday, September 28.
