Salisbury Volleyball - 2004 NCAA Tournament Notes
Nov. 8, 2004

* The Sea Gulls are making their third overall appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament, and first since the 2000 season. Salisbury also qualified for the 1998 tournament, where it lost 3-0 to Gettysburg in the opening round. The Gulls lost 3-0 to Averett in the opening match of the 2000 NCAA Tournament.

* Salisbury (25-11 overall) won the Capital Athletic Conference’s championship for the third time to capture the CAC’s automatic bid to this year’s NCAA Tournament.  Salisbury defeated Catholic 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-24) in the CAC championship match on Saturday.

* Salisbury is the #5 seed for the six-team regional being hosted by Gettysburg (Pa) College. Salisbury faces #4 seed Frostburg State in Thursday’s opening match at 4:30 pm. With a win, the Sea Gulls would advance to play #1 seed Juniata in the regional semifinal on Friday, also at 4:30 pm. The regional final is scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday.

* The Sea Gulls bring a 13-match winning streak – their longest of the season - and 31-game winning streak into the tournament. The 13-match streak is three short of the school-record set during the 2003 season.

* Salisbury is 0-2 against Frostburg State, its first round opponent, in 2004. The Bobcats defeated the Sea Gulls 3-0 in Frostburg on September 18, and again 3-2 in Salisbury on September 24.

* Salisbury ranks third in three team categories in the conference statistics: hitting percentage (.206), kills (13.09/game), and assists (11.64/game).

* Individually, senior Kim Rementer (pictured) ranks third in the CAC in digs (5.20/game), sophomore Abbey Petrecca ranks third in assists (10.0/game) and junior Lindsay Lawson ranks fifth in kills (3.24/game).

* Rementer’s 660 digs this season is the third highest single-season total in team history. With 1,330 career digs, she has also climbed to fourth place on SU’s all-time list.

* Petrecca’s 1,270 season assists ranks as the second highest single-season total in Salisbury history. With 2,237 career assists, she has also moved into second place on Salisbury’s all-time assists list.

* Lawson became the fourth Sea Gull player and first since the 2000 season to register at least 400 kills in a season. She has 412 kills entering the NCAA Tournament. Junior Brittany Mister needs 11 more kills to also join the 400-club. Should she reach that milestone, Lawson and Mister would become the first SU pair to both record 400-kills in the same season.

* Head Coach Margie Knight, now serving in her eighth season, brings a 169-113 career record into the tournament. A former SU letter-winner, Knight is also a member of the University’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

* Salisbury is playing in its 32nd varsity season with an all-time cumulative record of 624-496-7.

* The volleyball team is one of three Salisbury teams involved in NCAA Tournament action this week, with a fourth - football - possibly joining the postseason party next week. The field hockey team is hosting one of four NCAA regionals this weekend, while the men’s soccer team hosts a second round NCAA match on Saturday.
