Salisbury
DOVER, Del. – The
Salisbury University volleyball team welcomed Rt. 13 rival Wesley College to the
Capital Athletic Conference on Wednesday night with a 3-0 straight set victory.
The Sea Gulls made quick work of the Wolverines as the maroon and gold won
30-16, 30-16, 30-22.
Junior setter Jaime
Marzocchi made 33 assists and sophomore Rachel Downes made nine kills
and 11 digs in the victory for SU. Sophomore Gabby Long led the team with
17 digs and freshman Kathleen Cinelli recorded a team-high 12 kills.
The loss snapped Wesley's
three-match winning streak. This is the first-year for Wesley (3-5, 0-1 CAC) in
the CAC. Salisbury is now 9-5 for the season and 2-0 in the conference.
SU will host a two-day
invitational this weekend at the Maggs Center as the Sea Gulls welcome
Gettysburg College,
Johns Hopkins University,
New Jersey City University and The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey to the
Eastern Shore. Play begins on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. with SU against Hopkins
for the third time this season.
