Sea Gulls lose two on second day of Battlefield Classic
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It was a tough day for the Salisbury University volleyball team at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic on Saturday afternoon at Gettysburg College as the Sea Gulls (5-3) lost both of their matches to Johns Hopkins University and Elizabethtown College.

Johns Hopkins defeated SU, 3-1, as the Blue Jays won the first, third and fourth sets. The match was close throughout as SU won the second set 30-20 before the Blue Jays rattled off two straight set wins en route to the 26-30, 30-20, 26-30, 27-30 victory. Junior Stacey Krebs had 16 kills, 12 digs and five block assists to lead SU. Sophomore Gabby Long made a team-high 26 digs and junior Jaime Marzocchi recorded 35 assists in the loss.

Elizabethtown took down Salisbury in the second match of the afternoon 22-30, 23-30, 19-30. Krebs had a team-high 19 kills and 12 digs against Elizabethtown while Marzocchi had 19 assists and seven digs in the loss. Long added 12 digs and sophomore Nicole Massarelli contributed six kills.

Elizabethtown defeated Johns Hopkins 3-1 in the morning with a 30-22, 28-30, 30-24, 30-20.

SU went 2-0 on Day One of the tournament with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Eastern Mennonite and Lycoming.

The Sea Gulls will open up Capital Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, September 11, on the road against Marymount (Va.) University in Arlington, Va., with a 7 p.m. match.
