Sullivan Ranked 38th
Nationally as Track Season Concludes
May 22, 2006
SALISBURY, MD - Salisbury University completed its season when the NCAA National
Track & Field Committee announced their selection for the 2006 Outdoor Track &
Field Championships.
Freshman Kelly Sullivan (Phoenix, MD/Maryvale
Prep) who was provisionally qualified and ranked 38th in the 3000 meter
steeplechase with the time of 11:18.29 missed the cut for this weekend’s NCAA
National Championships. The NCAA Committee took the top 19 student athletes
with the final qualifying time being 10:59.9 from the provisional qualifying
list.
"I am very proud of Kelly and what she has
accomplished this season. She provisionally qualified for nationals and won the
Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase in
a conference record time," said head coach Jim Jones. "She is young and I know
she will be in the NCAA championships in the future with continued development."
Overall, it was another successful season
for the Sea Gulls. The men won the CAC Championships for the third consecutive
year while the women finished second. The women also broke two school records
and one CAC meet record.
"Both teams have a lot to be thankful for
this year," said Jones. "We only lose a few seniors to graduation and, with the
majority of both teams returning, it leads me to believe 2007 will be another
banner year. We will be hosting the CAC meet and I feel we will have more NCAA
qualifiers in the near future. I am already looking forward to next year with
our new recruits and veterans."

Salisbury Sees Four School
Records Fall in Last Indoor Meet
March 4, 2006
VIRGINIA TECH
LAST CHANGE INVITE
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Salisbury University
Indoor Track & Field team took only eight athletes to compete in the Last Chance
Invite Meet on the Virginia Tech. campus. Half of those participants made their
"last chance" count as four more school records fell at the feet of the talented
Sea Gull runners.
Eric Graves (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville)
bested teammate Will Murdoch’s record in the 3000 Meter Run.
Graves clocked in with an 8:53.10, good enough for sixth place among elite
runners from many divisions. Several Division I runners from top schools such as
N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech., South Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia were
competing in every event. Many events also had numerous specialists competing
from schools spanning the East Coast.
Marcus Tines (Warrenton, VA/Liberty)
broke his own record in the 200 Meter Dash with a blistering time of 22.76.
Tines beat his previous mark by 0.36 seconds which, in sprints, is a sizeable
decrease. His time was 15th overall against some of the nation’s best
sprinters.
Colton Vander Vliet (Port Murray, NJ/West Morris Central)
set a new record in the grueling 400 Meter Dash. His time of
52.14 earned 13th place. Vander Vliet, only a sophomore, is part of a
talented group of 400 Meter runners at Salisbury that could push each other for
the next few years.
The final record was broken by senior
standout Casey McInerny (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy). McInerny placed
ninth overall in the Mile Run with an outstanding time of 5:19.69. She bested
her own record by more than seven seconds as McInerny keeps adding to her
impressive list of accomplishments at Salisbury.
With warm weather approaching, the Sea Gull
runners will shift their attention to the outdoor season. If the final indoor
meet was a sign of things to come, the Salisbury Track and Field team could be a
major force in the Capital Athletic Conference this spring.

Salisbury Track and Field
Running Toward a Three-Peat
February 15, 2006
2006 ROSTER | 2006 SCHEDULE
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
men’s track and field team begins the 2006 outdoor season with hopes of
capturing a third straight conference championship. "Lately, Salisbury
University has started a tradition of 'Three-peats' with the men’s lacrosse and
field hockey teams winning the National Title three years in a row," said
Head Coach Jim Jones. "We would love to add our name to the list of those
great teams." The
men’s team returns with most members in tact from last season’s championship.
Seniors Rivers Johnson (Ft. Meade, MD/Meade) and Will Murdoch (Bel
Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) and sophomore Scott Koehler (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck)
will provide experience and leadership. "The core of the team from the last
few seasons is still here," said Jones. "Having these guys will help our
freshman gain some experience to jump start their careers."
Junior Derrick
Washington (Montgomery Village, MD/Watkins Mill) is coming off of a year
where he was named CAC athlete of the year when we won three events, long jump,
triple jump, and 110 high hurdles, in the 2005 conference tournament. "Derrick
is a great athlete who also plays basketball here," said Jones. "He works really
hard out there and I think he can be just as good as he was last year."
Junior sprinter
Marcus Tines (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) is going for his own 3-peat in the 100
and 200-meter dash. "Marcus is the former CAC rookie of the year so it is neat
having him going for a 3-peat at the same time as the team going for their,"
said Jones.
The goal for the
women’s track and field team is to win their first ever CAC title. "We have
never won a championship but the team has worked hard so it is definitely in
reach," said Jones. "This team is one of the best we have had since I have been
here so hopefully we can get it done."
Junior Karene 'KC'
Gale (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) holds the school record in the hammer throw.
"KC will add a lot to our team this year," said Jones. Sophomore Casey
McInerny (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) was a provisional NCAA qualifier
in the 1500 meters. "Casey has work really hard and I can see her improving on
her times from last year.," said Jones.
Freshman high jumper
Jessica Carey (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) joins the team this year and will try
to make an immediate impact. "Jessica has the ability to compete on the national
level with her high jump skill," said Jones. "She will make an impact for us
right away."
With a young team, the women have a chance
to make a run at several conference titles over the next few seasons. "We have a
very young team but have a lot of experience," said Jones. "By continuing to
work hard this team can be one of the best this school has had in the sport."
