Gulls qualify for NCAA Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – Four
members of the Salisbury University track & field team will be participating in
the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wisconsin as
sophomores Bobby Price and Kelly Sullivan qualified in the men’s
high jump and women’s 3000 meter steeplechase and freshmen Delannie Spriggs
and Victoria Lawson will compete in the men’s 100 meter and women’s 400
meter each, respectively.
Spriggs,
the only freshman in the field, ran the 100 in a time of 10.57 at The College of
New Jersey’s Last Chance Meet on May 17 to match the automatic qualifying time.
The top qualifying time in the event is 10.41 held by sophomore Hanneus Ollison
of McMurray University.
Price is
one of six student-athletes to hit the height of 2.02 meters (6-7 1/2). Price is
a provisional qualifier who cleared his height at the 2007 Mason-Dixon
Championships. The only automatic qualifier in the field is junior Al Winsley of
Mississippi College who successfully jumped 2.16 meters (7-1).
Sullivan’s time of 10:48.84 ranks her 11th in the field as she was a provisional
qualifier for the event. She set the school-record at the Swarthmore Last Chance
Meet and missed the automatic qualifying time by .84 tenths of a second.
Lawson
ranks in the top 10 in the 400 meter as she was a provisional qualifier with a
time of 56.42. She ran the school-record time at the Swarthmore Last Chance
Meet.
The
Championships will take place on May 24-26 at the University of Wisconsin,
Oshkosh’s J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
