Washington (Md.) College sweeps Salisbury
CHESTERTOWN, Md. –
The Washington (Md.) College men’s and women’s swim teams swept Salisbury University on Wednesday evening in a non-conference meet between the two Eastern Shore rivals. Washington won the men’s meet 123.5 to 81.5 while the women’s team won 125 to 75 in their home opener.

Washington’s win for the men’s program (1-1) is the 100th all-time in program history and 17th straight over Salisbury. The Shorewomen (1-1) have now won 41 consecutive non-conference dual meets.

SU’s women’s team had two first-place finishes as the Sea Gulls (1-3) won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.39. The team consisted of senior Caitlin McGing, sophomore Angie Hammond and juniors Laura Kordzikowski and Raienne South. SU also took second place in the same event. The Sea Gulls swept first, second and third place in the 100 yard breaststroke as sophomore Maureen Gillespie won the event with a time of 1:12.98 while freshman Sara Jane Glover (1:20.73) and junior Amber Luedtke (1:28.14) came in second and third place, respectively.

Fifth-year senior Cole Mangum tied Washington’s Chris Soper in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.38. The Sea Gulls (1-3) had three of the top four spots in that event. Salisbury’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Mangum, senior Ross Spangler and juniors Benjamin Overholt and Brad Buckley came in first place with a time of 1:31.70.

Salisbury will make its home debut on Saturday, November 10, as the Sea Gulls welcome Marymount (Va.) University to the Maggs Center for a Capital Athletic Conference meet at 2 p.m.
