Salisbury
splits with Marymount (Va.) in first home meet
SALISBURY, Md. -
The Salisbury
University swimming program opened up their 2007-08 home schedule with a split
against undefeated Capital Athletic Conference opponent Marymount (Va.)
University on Saturday in the Maggs Center pool. Salisbury's men's team won
113-93 while the women's team fell 127-79 to the Saints.
The SU men's
team (2-3, 2-1 CAC) earned two relay victories in the 200 meter freestyle and
the 200 meter medley relays. The freestyle team consisted of seniors Cole
Mangum, Ross Spangler and juniors Benjamin Overholt and
Brad Buckley who finished with a time of 1:41.72. The medley relay squad
included Mangum, sophomore Mike Ferrari and freshmen Tim Metclaf
and Drew Robichaud who clocked in at 1:55.45.
Individually,
the men were led by Robichaud who took first place in the 400 meter freestyle
(4:26.73) and the 200 meter individual medley (2:22.71). Overholt (100 meter
freestyle, 55.76), Ferrari (100 meter breaststroke, 1:11.77) and Spangler (200
meter freestyle, 2:07.33) each earned first place finishes in their individual
events.
Salisbury
freshman Katy Turner led the way for the women's team (1-4, 1-2 CAC) as
she crossed the finish line in first place in two different events. Turner won
the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:10.26 and won the 200 meter individual
medley by almost four seconds with a time of 2:33.51.
Salisbury gets
back into the pool next weekend November 16-17 when they travel to Kutztown,
Pa., for the Kutztown Invitational meet.
