* Salisbury is making its third straight and fourth
overall appearance in the Division III World Series. The Sea Gulls have finished fifth twice
(1998, 2002) and second once (2003). *
Salisbury advanced to Salem by winning a six-team regional at home last weekend.
The Gulls defeated Rutgers-Camden 3-0 in Monday’s regional final. *
The Sea Gulls bring a 38-6 record and #2 national ranking into the World Series.
SU has enjoyed winning streaks of 15, nine and six games this season. The
15-game streak, which ended with a 1-0 loss in last weekend’s regional, is one
short of the school record established last year. *
Salisbury began the season ranked #1 in the NFCA preseason poll. The Gulls were
#5 in the second poll, #4 in the third poll and #2 in the current poll.
*
Aley and Rementer are also first team selectees to the 2004 CoSIDA District 2
All-Academic Team. Both are eligible for the national Academic All-America
squad, announced later this month. *
Salisbury placed five players on the all-tournament team from last weekend’s
regional. They were: 1B Rosie Aley, 2B Nichole Fuqua, 3B Leslie
White, P Lacey Lister, and C Kim Rementer. *
Aley was the leading hitter in last weekend’s regional, finishing with a .600
average (6-of-10) and five RBI in four games. Her three-run double was the key
hit in Monday’s 3-0 regional final win over Rutgers-Camden. *
Lister allowed just one run in 30 innings of work in the regional, working to a
0.23 ERA while recording three shutouts. Lister brings a season mark of 28-2 and
0.53 ERA to Salem. She has a two-year career record of 55-5. *
Lister was also the 2004 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, marking
the eighth straight year that a Salisbury player earned the conference’s top
individual award. She was one of seven Sea Gull players to earn 2004
all-conference honors. * Lister’s 28 wins this year is the second highest
single-season total in team history, but seven shy of the record set by Katie
Mullinix in 2002. * The Sea Gull pitching staff has registered 24 shutouts
this season. * Salisbury brings a .349 batting average into the World
Series (third best in the nation) and also ranks among the national leaders in
team ERA (0.88) and fielding percentage (.971). The Sea Gulls average 6.2 runs
per game.
