SU picks up third sweep in as many days
SALISBURY, Md. –
The Salisbury University softball team extended its win streak to 11-games with a pair of wins over Villa Julie, 7-1 and 3-2, Thursday afternoon at Sea Gull Field. With the win the Sea Gulls picked up their third sweep in as many days.

Sophomore pitcher Stacy Davis earned wins in both contests as she improved her season record to 16-2.

In game two Salisbury (34-7) and Villa Julie (15-19) were tied at two in the seventh inning when freshman Ali Ritter delivered the game winning RBI single.

Freshman Kelly Waskewicz led off the inning with an infield single and later moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by fellow freshman Brittany Lounge. Lounged reached base as the throw from VJC pitcher Jessica O’Neill pulled first baseman Heather Taylor off the bag.

Waskewicz and Lounge each advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Stacey Malarkey. After a four-pitch walk to senior Nichole Fuqua, Ritter ripped the game winner into right field to bring home Waskewicz.

Junior Kirsten Wells started the game for Salisbury but gave way to Davis in the sixth inning with the scored knotted at two.  Wells allowed six hits, two runs and struck out four. Davis scooped up her second win on the afternoon as she gave up two hits and struck out one in two innings of work.

In game one the Sea Gulls scored three runs in the first inning which would be more than enough for Davis. The right-handed hurler went all seven innings as she scattered two hits and struck out seven.

Waskewicz led the SU attack as she batted 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run. Senior Tee Dronenburg went 2-for-3 from the plate which includes a solo homerun in the third inning.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Tuesday, May 1 as they host Gettysburg at 3:30 pm at Sea Gull Field.
