Davis does it all as Sea
Gulls stave off elimination
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -
Facing elimination from the
NCAA Division III Softball Regional tournament, the fourth-seeded Salisbury
University Sea Gulls defeated eighth-seeded LaGrange College, 2-0 on Friday. The
SU victory eliminated the Panthers from their first-ever NCAA tournament.
Sophomore pitcher Stacy
Davis (18-3) provided the offense and the defense to keep the No. 14 Sea
Gulls (37-8) alive in the regional. Davis pitched a complete game shutout on
four hits as she didn't allow a walk and struck out one batter. At the plate,
Davis hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to provide all the offense the
Sea Gulls would need.
LaGrange pitcher Amanda Daniel also went the distance as she
allowed both runs on five hits, one walk to go along with four strikeouts.
SU junior Meaghan Murphy,
who didn't play in Thursday's opening tournament game, stepped up and went
2-for-3 at the dish as she hit a double and a single. Senior catcher Tee
Dronenburg and freshman Ali Ritter both cracked singles off the
Panther pitcher.
The victory advances
Salisbury to face Christopher Newport University on Saturday, May 12.
