Sea Gulls extend win streak to 13 with sweep of Bullets
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball team extended its winning streak to 13 games with a doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg College, 5-1 and 8-3, on senior day at Sea Gull Field.

Salisbury (36-7) came to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning in the second game tied at three when Capital Athletic Conference Player & Rookie of the year Kelly Waskewicz drilled a line drive over the left field fence to put SU up by one. Waskewicz was 1-for-1 in the game with three walks, three runs and her 17th home run of the season to go along with her team-high 49th RBI. The freshman is now the single season home run record holder at Salisbury and fourth on the all-time list with 17.

SU added a four-run sixth inning to seal the victory behind a RBI groundout by third baseman Stacey Malarkey and a RBI double from freshman Ali Ritter (2-for-4, two RBIs). Fellow freshman Jen Cahall added two hits and one run for Salisbury.

Kirsten Wells scooped up her 16th win of the season as she went four innings and gave up three runs on four hits and three strikeouts. Sophomore Stacy Davis earned her first save of the season. Davis worked three scoreless relief innings as she gave up only one hit.

Gettysburg (21-13) was led by its catcher Abbe Miller who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Bullets pitcher Beth McCullough suffered her seventh loss on the year as she went six and gave up eight runs and nine walks.

In game one, Ritter (2-for-3, three RBIs) broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with a bases loaded double that plated three runs. Later in the sixth Waskewicz added an insurance run with a solo home run.

Senior Nichole Fuqua added a two-hit game to go along with one RBI, one run and her seventh stolen base on the year. Senior Tee Dronenburg recoded a hit in the second game.

Davis (17-2) picked up the win in the circle in the first game for the maroon and gold as she went the distance and gave up one run on four hits. Davis earned her 12th complete game on the season and is the reigning CAC Player of the Week as she went 4-0 last week with 18 strikeouts in 20 innings.

The Sea Gulls will now wait until Sunday, May 6 to see if they are selected for the 2007 NCAA Division III tournament.
