Eight-run 5th inning rallies Sea Gulls as SU sweeps Capital
SALISBURY, Md.
– The Salisbury University softball team swept Capital University, 8-0 and 8-4, on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader at Sea Gull Field.

Salisbury (14-4) came-from-behind in the second game against Capital (7-7) as the Sea Gulls trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning. The Sea Gull bats came alive and scored eight unearned runs to win, 8-4.

Freshman Jen Cahall blasted a three-run home run followed by a solo home run from senior catcher Tee Dronenburg, her second of the day. Dronenburg hit a walk-off home run in the first game when her solo homer cleared the fence in the fifth inning to put SU up 8-0 and end the game.

SU pitcher Kirsten Wells (9-2) got wins in both games as she started the first game and came in for relief in the second. Wells has a team low 2.53 ERA and did not allow a run in either of her appearances today. She added four strikeouts as she now has 32 for the season.

Salisbury sophomore third baseman Stacey Malarkey hit a three-run home run, her fifth on the season, in the second inning of the first game against Capital. Senior second baseman Nichole Fuqua extended her hitting streak to 15 games with a hit in each game.

The Sea Gulls went 4-0 at this weekend's home stand and will rest this week before getting back on the field next Sunday, March 25, when they travel to The College of New Jersey.
