SU scores seven runs late to pull away from Capital
SALISBURY, Md. -
The Salisbury University softball team kicked off the weekend with an 11-2 victory against non-conference opponent Capital University on Saturday afternoon.

Salisbury (11-4) padded their 4-2 lead with seven runs in the last two innings of play.

SU junior Meghan Murphy started off the fifth inning with a double. She later scored on a Stacey Malarkey sacrifice fly. Senior Nichole Fuqua doubled and later scored on a single from freshman Ali Ritter. Senior catcher Tee Dronenburg then smashed a two-run home run to center field.

In the sixth the Gulls plated three additional runs. Murphy reached on a fielder’s choice and promptly scored thanks to Malarkey’s two-run homer. Sophomore Brittany Sullivan later singled home freshman Jacquie Henry to cap off the seven-run two inning spurt.

SU junior pitcher Kirsten Wells (7-2) went the distance as she allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out five.

Salisbury will meet Capital again tomorrow, Sunday, March 18, in a doubleheader that will begin at 11 a.m.
