Salisbury
- The No. 1 seeded and number-one ranked Sea Gulls shutout No. 3 seeded Mary
Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship,
extending their winning streak to 29 consecutive games and capturing their 10th
straight CAC title. The
Sea Gulls (18-0 overall) took an early lead when senior Erin Budd scored on an
assist from freshman Danielle Twilley at 28:12. That tally proved to be the only
goal of the first half. Salisbury
took command of the second half when sophomore Megan Powell scored on a penalty
corner assist from Budd at 32:23 to push the Sea Gulls ahead 2-0. Senior
All-American Melissa Webster scored at 19:11 on a pass from junior Kim McLeod.
Two minutes later Powell passed to junior Brittany Elliott for Salisbury's

Salisbury,
Md. – Bill Whittington’s goal off a Christopher Mills assist
at the 30:41 mark was the difference as the Salisbury men’s soccer team
claimed it’s third straight Capital Athletic Conference championship and fifth
in six years with a 1-0 victory over York Saturday at the SU Athletics Complex. No.
3-ranked Salisbury extended its school-record streak of 20 straight games
without a loss and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s
Soccer Tournament. The field will be announced Sunday night with the first round
beginning Wednesday. Salisbury
(18-0-2), which entered the CAC Tournament as the top seed, ousted #2-seed York
(16-5) by scoring in the first half while battling a stiff wind. And after out
shooting the Spartans 4-2 in the first half, the Sea Gulls attempted 17 shots in
the final 45 minutes, compared to just seven for York. Junior
Jason Cranford picked up the win in goal, recording three saves on nine
shot attempts. York senior Michael Cook faced 23 shots, finished with 10
saves - all in the second half - and took the loss. It
was the second straight year Salisbury has defeated York in the championship
game. SU won by a 3-2 count in 2003.
After
a thrilling scoreless regulation and two overtimes, in which UMW hit the post
twice on shots and later cleared a pair of Salisbury shots headed toward the
net, the result would be decided by a penalty kick shootout. Salisbury kicked
first, and Fulco stopped Candice Hills' shot before UMW's Jen Condon
missed her chance. After Fulco made another save on Sharyn MacEwen's
attempt, senior Jill Palmieri made her shot to put UMW on top. After Haley
Cramer's shot sailed high, senior Kathryn Amirpashaie made her chance. SU's Meghan
Tadio made her shot, setting the stage for Kingsbury, who connected to give
UMW the championship. Fulco
had just one save during regulation, but her two in the shootout were vital.
Junior Katie Hendrickson had seven saves for Salisbury.
