Salisbury,
which extended its school-record unbeaten streak to 21 games, improved to 18-0-3
on the season and will advance to the NCAA Sectionals where the Gulls will face
Johns Hopkins next Saturday. Johns Hopkins (17-0-2) tied Elizabethtown 1-1 on
Saturday, but advanced with a 5-3 advantage in penalty kicks. The site of the
game has yet to be determined. Arcadia
(16-3-4) and Salisbury tied 4-4 after the first five rounds of penalty kicks.
Senior Ylber Mezani, junior Kevin
Lee, senior Justin Clark and
junior Scott Wimsey were all
successful on their attempts for the Knights. Juniors Chris
Tracy, J.J. King, Bill
Whittington and Reid Klopp each
converted kicks for the Sea Gulls.
The
Sea Gulls took a 1-0 lead 16:51 into the contest when Whittington took a
crossing pass from junior Chris Mills and scored from eight yards out. Arcadia
tied the score with just 3:55 remaining in regulation when freshman Bryan
Altland found a loose ball in front of the goal and sliced a shot into the
back of the net. Salisbury,
which is making its third straight and fifth overall NCAA Tournament appearance,
outshot Arcadia 16-12, including 3-2 in the two 10-minute overtimes. Cranford
recorded six saves in the Salisbury goal, while Giangiulio had seven saves for
