Game Summary
Salisbury, Md - The Salisbury men's soccer team posted a 2-0 non-conference
victory over visiting Lynchburg Wednesday in the season opener for both teams.
Junior Tim Lane provided the Sea Gulls
with an early lead, scoring off a cross from the right wing by junior Chris
Tracy at 4:46. The score remained 1-0 at halftime despite Salisbury outshooting
Lynchburg 8-1 in the opening half.
Salisbury, which begins the 2004 campaign
ranked seventh in the national preseason poll, continued to control play in the
second half as well and added an insurance goal at 69:42 as junior Christopher
Mills scored off an assist from junior Bill Whittington.
Salisbury finished the game with a 20-5
advantage in shots. Junior goalie Jason Cranford recorded five saves to earn the
shuout. Lynchburg's Dan Ruch finished with 10 saves.
Salisbury returns to action Saturday in
the opening round of its annual Elmer Lord Tournament, sponsored by Shore Bank.
The Sea Gulls host Hood at 2 pm, then face Mt. Union on Sunday at 3 pm.
