Gulls earn first road win with third straight shutout
CHESTERTOWN, Md
.- The Salisbury University men's soccer team extended its consecutive shutout to three games (290 minutes) with a 1-0 road victory against Eastern Shore rival Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday night.

Salisbury (2-0-1) broke through the scoreless 0-0 game in the 52nd minute with a goal off the foot of freshman Mike Napolitano by way of a Nick Malone assist. Napolitano's game-winner was the first goal of his collegiate career. The Ellicott City, Md., native also made his first start of the season tonight as well.

SU goalie Matt Blue (2-0-1) recorded his third straight shutout and saved two WC shots in the game. The senior has eight saves on the year and now has gone 290 minutes between the pipes without giving up a goal.

The Sea Gulls controlled the match as they took nine corner kicks (seven in the second half) compared to the two by the Shoremen. Salisbury also attempted 24 shots as they placed 15 on goal.

Washington (1-2) dropped its second consecutive 1-0 game as goalie Marc Petrucci (14 saves) picked up the loss.

The maroon and gold will head south this weekend for Raleigh, N.C., to participate in the Esprit D-III Classic. Salisbury will play Guilford on Saturday and then meet up with Lynchburg on Sunday. SU finished a perfect 2-0 last season in the same tournament.
