Streaks continue as SU beats Villa Julie, 2-0 The Sea Gull defense shut out their 10th different opponent (fifth consecutive) on the season. SU (9-3-1, 5-0 CAC) has outscored its opponents 15-0 in the past five games. The victory keeps Salisbury in first place of the CAC. SU goalie Greg Wellinghoff improved to 7-1 on the year with four saves. The sophomore extended his scoreless minutes streak to 488 minutes which spans over six games. Salisbury was shutout in the first half as the maroon and gold made halftime adjustments and scored two goals in the final 45 minutes of play. Junior Scott Sparrow paced the Sea Gulls in the second half as he recorded a goal and an assist. Sparrow broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute with a left-footed shot into the right corner of the net to give SU the 1-0 lead. The second strike was from sophomore Kyle Sterling as he managed to out jump the crowd and get his head on a Sparrow indirect kick in the 62nd minute. Sterling's score was his team leading ninth on the year and fifth in as many games. If the Salisbury, Md., native scores a goal in SU's next match he will tie the mark (six straight games) set last season by former Sea Gull Wijy Jones. Villa Julie (6-7-1, 3-3 CAC) dropped its CAC record to .500 as goalie Eric Lowman (10 saves) recorded a double-digit save effort in the loss. The Mustangs took only three corner kicks and managed only 10 shots compared to 10 corners and 27 shots by SU. Salisbury returns to action Saturday (October 13) when they travel to St. Mary's City, Md., to take on the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.) College at 2 p.m.
