Sterling, Wellinghoff and McGrath named to All-Region Teams
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Salisbury University men's soccer program received more postseason honors as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3kicks.com recently released their respective Division III all-region teams. Two Sea Gulls were selected to receive honors by both organizations while an additional Sea Gull landed on the D3kicks.com team.

Sophomore midfielder Kyle Sterling was a NSCAA All-South region second team selection and a D3kicks.com All-South region first team selection. The Salisbury, Md., native led the Sea Gulls in nearly every offensive category as he scored 18 goals, 11 assists, 47 points. He also recorded team-highs for shots (86), shots on goal (45) and game winning goals (six). In two seasons, Sterling has amassed 24 goals, 15 assists and 63 points.

Sophomore goalie Greg Wellinghoff was a NSCAA All-South region third team selection and like Sterling was one team better on the D3kicks.com All-South region selections as he made the second team. The Salisbury, Md., native started 15 of the 17 games he saw action in. He posted a 13-2-1 record in between the pipes for the Sea Gulls (16-4-2), who won the Capital Athletic Conference championship and returned to the NCAA tournament after a year hiatus. Wellinghoff faced 117 shots and made 46 saves (.868 save percentage). He only allowed seven goals in 1,287 minutes of play. Wellinghoff returned to the Sea Gulls in 2007 after taking the ’06 season off. He played in two games his freshman campaign in 2005.

Sterling and Wellinghoff were high school teammates at James M. Bennett in Salisbury, Md.

Sophomore defenseman Justin McGrath joined Wellinghoff on the D3kicks.com All-South region second team. The Perry Hall, Md., native helped to anchor one of the top defenses in the country. The maroon and gold was ranked 10th in Division III in goals against average as the Sea Gulls posted a stingy 0.48 average in 22 games. SU was also fourth in shutout percentage (0.73). McGrath added an assist in the 2007 season as he started all 22 games.
