SU men's
lacrosse announce '08 team captains
SALISBURY, Md. - The
Salisbury University men's lacrosse program, the 2007 NCAA Division III national
champions, announced its 2008 captains; Kylor Berkman, Kyle Burto,
Kevin Kustron and Ben Sandlin. The new leaders of the Sea Gulls
are four student-athletes that consist of three seniors and a junior.
Berkman, a
junior midfielder, is a returning first team All-American and the 2007 NCAA
Division III Midfielder of the Year. The Salisbury, Md., native played in all 23
games last season where he netted 35 goals and recorded a team-high 44 assists.
Berkman ranked fourth on the team with 79 points.
Burto, a senior midfielder, played in all 23
games in 2006 and has logged 53 games in his career. The
Carthage,
N.Y., native scored 13 goals and dished out 14 assists last season.
Kustron, a senior
attackman, played in all 23 games last season. The McMurray, Pa., native racked
up 26 points (10 goals and 16 assists) in '07.
Sandlin, a senior defenseman, played in all 23 games last season where he
started eight times. He will be the leader of the Sea Gull defense in '08. The
Magnolia, Del., native scooped up 42 ground balls and caused 20 turnovers in
'07.
Salisbury will open its 2008 season at home on February 16 at Sea
Gull Stadium against Virginia Wesleyan College at Noon.
The game will mark the
debut of the men’s lacrosse program on the new A-Turf field at Sea Gull Stadium.
With a win SU coach Jim Berkman will record his 300th career win at
Salisbury. He enters the '08 season with an overall career record of 308-35 (one
season at Potsdam State) and a 299-30 record in 19 seasons at the helm at SU.
