Gulls selected in MLL Draft The three Sea Gulls were only three-of-five Division III players selected among the 50 drafted out of a field of more than 200 former collegiate stars. Dasinger was drafted with the 9th pick of the second round (19th overall) by the Rochester Rattlers. The Reisterstown, Md. native scored 43 goals and added 19 assists as the midfielder was ranked fifth on the team with 62 points. Dasinger was named a first-team All-American and earned a spot on the first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference. Heier, the William C. Schmeisser Award winner for top defensemen in the country, was picked in the fourth round (37th overall) by the San Francisco Dragons, who had the seventh pick in that round. The two-time first-team All-American and All-CAC selection was recently named a Scholar All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association after he led one of the top defenses in the country to a mere five goals against average. The Fallston, Md. native caused 34 turnovers, scooped up 46 ground balls and added one assist on the year. Gonzalez was named National Specialist of the Year and was drafted with the second pick of the fifth round (42nd overall) by the Washington Bayhawks. A first-team All-American and All-CAC selection, the Crofton, Md. native had 26 caused turnovers, corralled 36 ground balls and added 17 points (10 goals, seven assists) from his defensive midfield position. Dasinger, Heier and Gonzalez are the first Sea Gulls drafted since 2005 when midfielder Justin Smith and defenseman Jeff Bigas were picked by Rochester and Philadelphia, respectively. Currently, Smith plays for the defending MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage while Bigas is on the Chicago Machine roster. Former SU defenseman and National Player of the Year Eric Martin plays for the San Francisco Dragons. | ||||||||||||||||
