Vaitkus records career-game in 73-62 loss to York
(Pa.) Salisbury (2-8, 0-3 CAC) was paced by senior Jonas Vaitkus who scored a career-high 18 points (7-of-9 from the field) and added five rebounds. The Sea Gulls also got big games from sophomore Greg Palmer (15 points, nine rebounds) and junior Brandon Abney (12, 10). SU's leading scorer for the season, Gary Ward, was held to just eight points as he shot 1-for-7 from three-point range. York (4-3, 3-1 CAC) was led by its senior trio of Nate Lankford (11 points, six rebounds, three steals), Levi Winters (18, 17, four) and Chad McGowan (26, four, two) who scored 55 of the teams 73 points. McGowan shot 7-for-12 from the field as well as going 12-for-20 from the free throw line. The Spartans forced 20 Sea Gull turnovers and made 11 steals which led to 25 points. SU went into halftime down eight (33-25) before it cut the lead to six with 13:29 remaining in the second half. YCP answered as it pushed the lead to a game-high 18 with 8:26 left in the game. SU is off to its worse start since 2003-04 when it started 2-6. The Gulls have also dropped six straight CAC games dating back to last season. Salisbury is off until the New Year when it will host No. 9 Virginia Wesleyan College on January 5 at 3 p.m.
