2007 fall schedules released
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University Athletics Department has
officially released the 2007 fall schedules for cross country, field hockey,
football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
Once
again the Sea Gull athletic teams have filled their schedules with nationally
ranked opponents, Capital Athletic Conference contests, Atlantic Central
Football Conference games and many in-state non-conference rivalry games.
One of
the many exciting highlights to the 2007 fall schedules is the new location for
the annual Regents Cup football game between Salisbury and Frostburg State
University. This season the two schools will travel to Annapolis, the state
capital, and play at the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday, November 10. The game
is slated to kick-off at 2 p.m. in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Last
season, SU won 42-15 over FSU at Towson University.

Cross Country

Can't Miss Home Meet: Salisbury hosts Don Cathcart Invitational
(September 29, 10 am)
Overview: The Salisbury men's and women's cross country teams will open
their season at home (Winter Place Park) with the Sea Gull Opener the first
weekend in September. The SU men's team will look to repeat its first place
showing the following weekend at the Towson Invitational. The Sea Gulls will
travel to New York on September 15 to run in the New York University
Invitational. After an off week the Gulls will host the Don Cathcart
Invitational, formerly known as the Tidewater Classic, on September 29. SU will
only run twice during the month of October (DeSales and Elizabethtown) before
traveling to York, Pa., for the Capital Athletic Conference championships. The
SU women's team will look to win their fourth CAC title in a row while the men
go for No. 3 in a row. The NCAA Division III Mideast Regional follows at Lehigh
University.

Field Hockey
2006 record: 17-4, 5-1 CAC
Postseason: NCAA second round, CAC champions
Can't Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Messiah (September 29, 1 pm)
Overview: Salisbury will be tested right out of the gates as its second
game of the season will be on the road against Christopher Newport University.
The Captains knocked the Sea Gulls out of the NCAA tournament last year 2-1 in
overtime in the second round. SU returns home to host its annual Sea Gull
Invitational before hosting two in-state rivals in Johns Hopkins University and
Frostburg State University. SU will then welcome national powerhouse Messiah
College on September 29 and later take a road trip north to face The College of
New Jersey on October 13. The 12-time defending CAC champions will look to
defend their crown in late October and early November in the conference
tournament. The Sea Gulls have made it into the NCAA tournament 22 times in the
past 23 years, including 13 straight. The 2007 schedule features four 2006 NCAA
tournament teams.

Football
2006 record: 6-5,
2-2 ACFC
Postseason: ECAC South Atlantic Bowl champions
Can't Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Becker (Homecoming – October 20, 1
pm)
Overview: The Sea Gulls will be home three times during the month of
September as the Gulls kick-off their season against Albright College. After two
road games against SUNY Brockport and Christopher Newport the Gulls will host
three straight weekends at Sea Gull Stadium. Montclair State comes to town on
September 22 followed by the Apprentice School on Family Weekend. Division I-AA
school Saint Peter's rounds out the home stand on October 6. SU returns home on
October 20 against Becker College for Homecoming Weekend. Salisbury will close
out its schedule with two rivalry games. On October 27 the Gulls will head north
on Route 13 to face nationally ranked Wesley College, a NCAA semifinalist last
season. SU will then head west to Annapolis to face Frostburg State in the
annual Regents Cup game at the U.S. Naval Academy on November 10. The 2007
schedule features two 2006 NCAA tournament teams.

Men's Soccer
2006 Record:

Miss Home Game:
Salisbury vs. Mary
Washington (October 6, 2 pm)
Overview: The Sea Gulls are looking to regain the conference
championship for the first time since 2004 and will have to go through the newly
revamped Capital Athletic Conference to do so. The CAC has added Villa Julie
College and Wesley College to give the conference nine teams. The Salisbury
schedule features four NCAA tournament teams from '06. SU will face three of
those teams (Rochester (N.Y.), York (Pa.) and Lynchburg) in the month of
September. The Sea Gulls host CAC foe University of Mary Washington on October 6
and Christopher Newport University, an NCAA Tournament team in '06, on October
17. The conference tournament will run from October 28 until November 3.

Volleyball
2006 record: 22-13,
5-2 CAC
Can't Miss Home Game: Salisbury vs. Gallaudet (October 18, 7 pm)
Overview: Salisbury begins the season with three straight weekend
tournaments to go along with some conference games. The Gulls return to the
Johns Hopkins and Gettysburg tournaments to start the season before going to the
Swarthmore tournament. Salisbury will close out the month of September with
back-to-back home tournaments. The month of October is loaded with CAC matches
including three straight at home, highlighted by national power Gallaudet
University on October 18. The conference tournament will run between the end of
the month and the start of November. The 2007 schedule features two 2006 NCAA
tournament teams.

Women's Soccer

Virginia Wesleyan (September 12, 4:30 pm)
Overview:
The reigning Capital Athletic Conference champions will be tested early and
often in 2007 as Salisbury's schedule features five NCAA tournament teams from
one year ago. The Sea Gulls open up the '07 campaign with a trip to Radnor, Pa.
to take participate in the Cabrini Tournament followed by a road trip to face
Ursinus. Salisbury's home opener is against Virginia Wesleyan, a Final Four team
from 2006. Other notable home games include Christopher Newport on September 25
and Rowan on October 2. The Sea Gulls will only have three home CAC games as
they hit the road five times for conference games. The CAC tournament will be
held the last week in October into the first week of November.
