No. 18 Salisbury steamrolls Shipbuilders
SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 18 Salisbury University football team steamrolled Atlantic Central Football Conference foe Apprentice School 62-14 on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium in front of a Family Weekend crowd of 2,040.

The Sea Gulls (5-0, 2-0 ACFC) had their highest offensive output of the season as the maroon and gold ran for 387 yards and threw for 182 yards for a season-high 565 yards of total offense en route to the 48-point win.

SU scored 28 unanswered points to open the floodgates early on as senior Jamar Garner scored the first two touchdowns of the afternoon. Garner capped off a four play, 27-yard drive with a five-yard score. He later ran in from 52 yards out on the next possession to go up 14-0.

Junior quarterback Bobby Sheahin relieved starter Ronnie Curley on the third drive of the game as he connected with senior Chris Newton on a 54-yard touchdown pass. The score capped a four play, 96-yard drive that lasted just under two minutes.

Sheahin finished the afternoon 6-of-11 passing for 128 yards and one score. Garner was the leading rusher in the game as he ran for 105 yards on 10 carries and two scores.

Senior David Leonard and sophomore Valdase Morris got in the scoring act as the two slots scored the final points of the first half, Leonard on a three-yard run and Morris on a five-yard run, to give SU a 42-7 lead at the half.

Morris had a team-high four receptions for 93 yards with a long of 54 yards while the Shipbuilders (1-3, 1-1 ACFC) got their only first half score from J'Michael Swain who rumbled in from four yards out to begin the second quarter.

The SU defense stood strong all afternoon as it accounted for 14 total tackles for a loss for a combined 65 yards. Junior Jarrell Chandler and freshman Chris Ross each had a team-high two tackles for loss including a sack each.

The Sea Gulls added 20 fourth quarter points to seal the deal as Curley, sophomore Alesandro Valentino and sophomore Nick Campanaro each scored rushing TDs.

Apprentice quarterback Kyle Franklin finished 10-of-21 for 196 yards as he hooked up with his top target Travis Reid for seven catches for 168 yards.

Junior Ronnie Shockley ran for 66 yards while Valentino finished with 58 yards on only two carries. Curley grinded out 41 yards on the ground and added 54 through the air to give him 95 total yards of offense.

Senior Chris Loveland led SU in total tackles with eight while junior Matt Barnes, sophomore Eric Arndt and senior Joe Galloway all finished with five tackles.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, October 6, as they face Geneva College at 6 p.m in a non-conference game.
