Sea Gulls named All-ACFC
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
The Atlantic Central Football Conference released its
2007 all-conference team and the Sea Gulls were well represented as the maroon
and gold place 13 student-athletes on the first and second teams.
The offensive line
placed two players on the first team as juniors David Preston and
Jeremy McKinney each garnered a spot. The Sea Gulls' line has opened the
holes for the second ranked rushing attack in the country that averages over 340
yards per contest. Junior Bryan Burdalski was named to the second team.
Quarterback Ronnie Curley and slots Jamar Garner and Valdase
Morris were each named to the second team offense. Curley leads the SU
ground game with 751 yards and 10 touchdowns. The junior from Ellicott City,
Md., has also thrown for 463 yards and four touchdowns.
Garner ranks second on the team with 748 yards on the ground and has a team-high
12 rushing touchdowns. The senior from Frederick, Md., averages over 14 yards
per carry and has a long run of 80 yards this season.
Morris is the team's fourth leading rusher with 524 yards and eight touchdowns.
The sophomore from Salisbury, Md., averages just shy of 10 yards per carry.
Junior Jarrell Chandler was named to the first team defense along with
fellow junior Ryan Hesnan. Chandler has a team-high in tackles for loss
with 27 (104 yards) and sacks with nine (59 yards). The Salisbury, Md., native
ranks fifth on the team with 48 total tackles.
Hesnan is the team's second leading tackler
with 71 and has 13 tackles for loss for 42 yards. The
Brick
Township, N.J., native also has one interception on the year.
Senior Joe Galloway
earned his second straight second team honor has recorded 49 total tackles this
season to lead all defensive linemen for SU. The senior from Pasadena, Md.,
ranks second on the team in tackles for loss with 14 (53 yards) and has had his
hand in five sacks for 38 yards.
Salisbury's
top two tacklers at linebacker were each named to the second team defense.
Senior Chris Loveland leads the team with 76 tackles while junior Matt
Barnes has 48 tackles. The two have combined for 15 tackles for loss for 42
yards.
Junior Justin Acker leads the team in interceptions with three as he
earned a spot on the second team defense. The junior from Bowie, Md., has 47
tackles and registered one tackle for loss.
The final member of the all-conference team is senior placekicker Brendan
Kincaid who was named to the first team. Kincaid is 5-of-7 on field goals
this year with a long of 46 yards. The Cambridge, Md., native averages 56.8
yards per kickoff and is 43-47 of extra points this year.
The Sea Gulls set a school record with 15 players on the all-conference team in
2002. This year's total of 13 players is the most since 2005 when the maroon and
gold had matched that number.
