Salisbury Repeats as NCAA Field Hockey
National Champion
Sea Gulls Cap 22-0 Season With 6-3 Win Over Middlebury
in 2004 Championship Game
Salisbury successfully defended its NCAA Division III field hockey national
championship by defeating Middlebury 6-3 in the 2004 championship game in
Westfield, Mass. Sophomore Megan Powell scored twice and four other Sea Gulls
tallied single-goals as Salisbury completed a perfect 22-0 campaign. The Gulls
also established a new team record for victories in one season, snapping the
previous record of 21 set by the 1986 national championship team. Salisbury
never trailed in the 2004 final, building a 3-0 lead through the first 17
minutes and taking a 4-1 lead into halftime. Salisbury will carry a
school-record 33-game winning streak into the 2005 season.
