Salisbury, MD – The third-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team defeated defending national champion and sixth-ranked Cortland State 3-1 on Sunday to advance to Friday's national semifinals.  Senior Jess Manzone, freshman Brittany Elliott and junior Lindsay Elliott each scored for the Sea Gulls.  Sophomore Erin Budd had three assists.

The Gulls took a 1-0 lead into halftime on Manzone’s 14th goal (22:19) of the season.  An early second half goal (37:45) by Brittany Elliott, her eighth of the season, pushed the Sea Gull lead to 2-0.  The Red Dragons cut the deficit to 2-1 when freshman Jessica Seren scored unassisted at 46:54.  The Gulls sealed the victory with less than five minutes to play when Lindsey Elliott scored (65:30) her team-leading 20th goal of the season, on Budd’s third assist of the game.

Salisbury junior goalie Melissa Taylor made seven saves in the game, while Cortland senior goalie Erin Morris made three.  The Gulls had an 11-10 advantage in shots, while the teams were even with 10 penalty corners apiece.

With the win, Salisbury improves to 17-2 and earns its second final four appearance in three years and sixth overall.  Cortland’s season ends at 15-4.
