SU's well-balanced attack too much for SUNY Brockport
SALISBURY, Md. -
The Salisbury University field hockey team continued to show its perfection at the 2006 Salisbury Invitational as the Sea Gulls improved to 4-0 for the season, 2-0 in tournament play this weekend and won both games 8-0 and 9-0.

The later of which came against SUNY Brockport (0-3) who struggled to contain the explosive firepower the Sea Gulls unleashed. SU had six different players score goals and 11 players recorded an assist in the shutout victory.

Salisbury won the first game of the tournament, earlier in the day, with a win over Denison. The Sea Gulls will now face Eastern Mennonite, also a perfect 2-0 in the Salisbury Invitational, on Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m.

The Sea Gulls got out of the gates fast against the Golden Eagles as senior co-captain Lynette Sgrignoli scored two of her three goals in the first four minutes of play. Abby Rowe (one goal, one assist), another senior co-captain, notched the third score of the contest off a crisp pass from the stick of Ashley Spencer.

Senior co-captain Megan Powell would add two goals in the first to bump her season total to an impressive seven goals, tied with Sgrignoli for the team lead. Powell led the way in helpers as well with two assists. Her second assist came with no time left on the clock in the first half as the Sea Gulls were in the midst of a penalty corner. Powell shuffled a pass to Ashley Twigg who buried it into the back of the cage, giving Salisbury a 7-0 lead at the end of the first half.

After a dominating first half, that saw the Sea Gulls outshoot SUNY Brockport 26-1, Salisbury turned to its bench to secure the win. The young Sea Gulls savored the game experience did not disappoint. Salisbury held SUNY Brockport to two shots, both stopped by Erin Keenan. Jami Gobao and Caitlyn Ruffus each tallied a goal in the second with assists to Kelly Lloyd and Jerre Carter, respectively.

SUNY Brockport’s Andrea Vitello made 11 saves and Kelly Dunscomb stopped two for the Golden Eagles while SU’s Maria Ramoundos collected her fourth win of the season.
