Sea Gulls remain perfect with road win over Frostburg State
FROSTBURG, Md. –
The No. 1 ranked Salisbury University field hockey team remained perfect as it
defeated Frostburg State University on the road, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
This victory is the 17th straight by the three-time defending NCAA Division III
national champion Sea Gulls dating back to October 9, 2005.
The Sea
Gulls (7-0) scored early in the second half on a shot by senior Megan
Powell assisted by Lauren Correll at the 42nd minute. Powell sealed
the deal with 19 seconds remaining in regulation as she scored her team leading
11th goal of the season, which was setup off a penalty corner by Kristina
Holland.
SU goalie
Maria Ramoundos (one save) improved to 7-0 and recorded her second
straight shutout while Frostburg goalie Amanda Runion made 16 saves in the loss.
Salisbury
took 22 more shots than the Bobcats, 26-4, and the Gulls took 19 corners to
Frostburg’s (1-6) six.
The Sea
Gulls return to action on Tuesday, September 19th as they host out of conference
foe McDaniel College.
