Salisbury claims three spots on All-CAC first team
SALSIBURY, Md. -
Salisbury University, the 12-time defending Capital Athletic Conference
Champions, placed three players on the 2006 All-CAC Field Hockey First Team as the teams were
announced this week by the conference. SU senior Megan Powell was named
the 2006 CAC Player of the Year. Joining Powell on the first team are junior
Danielle Twilley and senior Tracey Lloyd, who were honored as
first-team midfielders.
Powell is
the latest in a long line of Sea Gulls named CAC Player of the Year. Most
recently, 2005 CAC Player of the Year, Brittany Elliott, went on to become a
first team All-American and lead the Gulls to a national title. Powell has
posted a tremendous statistical season with 26 goals and 10 assists heading into
the NCAA Tournament. Powell also leads Salisbury in game-winning goals with
seven. The Elkton, Md. native ranks among the top 10 nationally in goals and
points as well.
Twilley
is a solid two-way player that is relied upon heavily in the Sea Gull midfield.
The Delmar, Del. native has four goals and six assists this season in addition
to her defense. This is Twilley's first appearance on the All-CAC team.
Lloyd, a
two-time All-American, also received first team honors at midfield. Thus far,
Lloyd has four goals and seven assists. The Delmar, Md. native has started in
all 20 games for the Gulls and is looked to for on the field leadership.
Catholic
led the CAC awards with seven players making the first or second team. They
walked away with Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors as well.
