The Salisbury University
Sea Gulls, the 2004 field hockey regular season and tournament champions,
placed four players on the 2004 All-Capital Athletic Conference field hockey
first team and one player on the second team, as selected by the CAC’s head
coaches.
For the third straight year and eighth time in
nine seasons, Salisbury also had the league’s player of the year. Senior
midfielder Melissa Webster (Deal Island, MD/Washington HS) was named
winner of the conference’s Player-of-the-Year award. SU’s Dawn
Chamberlin was selected by her peers as the 2004 Coach-of-the-Year,
winning the award for the 10th straight season.
Joining Webster on the
11-player first team were junior Brittany Elliott, sophomore forward
Tracey Lloyd, and senior back Erin Budd. All three players
hail from Delmar High School in Delmar, DE.
Junior midfielder Kim
McLeod (Vienna, VA/Madison HS) was named to the second team.
The Sea Gulls, defending
national champions and ranked #1 in the nation, bring an 18-0 record into
the opening round of the 2004 NCAA Championship Tournament. Salisbury hosts
Drew at 10 am Saturday in its opening game. A victory advances Salisbury
into Sunday’s regional final at 1 pm against either Springfield or New
Jersey.
