YORK, Pa. -
The No. 5 ranked Salisbury University field hockey team earned its second
Capital Athletic Conference win this season as well as its seventh straight
victory overall with a 6-1 rout against York (Pa.) College on the road Saturday
afternoon.
Salisbury (8-1, 2-0 CAC) was led by forwards Lauren Correll and Lauren
Dietz. Correll, a sophomore, scored back-to-back goals just before the 10
minute mark to put the maroon and gold up 2-0. Correll now leads the team with
eight goals. Dietz, a senior, added two goals for the Sea Gulls off the bench.
Freshman Kandice Hancock added the only Sea Gull assist.
Senior Danielle Twilley recorded a penalty shot goal in the 11th minute,
her third penalty shot goal of the year, and now has a
team-high 18 points (seven goals, four assists) this season. Salisbury led 4-0
at the half.
The second half was
much of the same for SU as Dietz scored three minutes into the half followed by
freshman Abby Tedford, who scored her second goal of the year, in the
41st minute.
SU goalie Maria Ramoundos (49 minutes) remained perfect on the year as
the senior improved her record to 8-0. Freshman
Claire Davey-Karlson played the final 21
minutes in the cage as she allowed one goal on four Spartan shots.
YCP (3-7, 1-2 CAC) dropped its third straight game as backstop Claire Rekitzke
(11 saves) suffered the loss as she allowed all six SU goals. The lone Spartan
goal was scored by Laurel Sterner assisted by Jami Hassier in the 56th minute.
SU outshot the YCP 34-5 and took 10 penalty corners compared to three for York.
The Gulls have beaten the Spartans 19 times in 20 meetings.
Salisbury will now host No. 10 Rowan University at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September
25, at Sea Gull Stadium.
