game sweep at SU Invitational The Sea Gulls (4-1) went 3-0 over the weekend as they beat Denison, SUNY Brockport and EMU by a combined score of 15-1 in two days. SU surrendered its lone goal to Denison in the first game of the tournament. From there the SU defense locked down all opponents as the offense went on a 14-0 goal run to close out the tourney. SU scored three first half goals against the Royals (1-4) as sophomore Beverly Beladino found the back of the cage just over seven minutes into the contest to give the Gulls an early 1-0 lead. Senior Danielle Twilley netted the Gulls' next two goals as sophomore Michelle Rowe found her in front of the goal for her first scoring strike and then later added a penalty stroke to give SU a 3-0 advantage at the half. The Sea Gulls continued to pound the cage in the second half as senior Ashley Spencer scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Lauren Correll scored off an assist from senior Ashley Twigg to give SU a 5-0 lead. Twigg added an insurance goal four minutes later off a feed from freshman Kandice Hancock to seal the 6-0 win at the 52nd minute. Senior goalie Maria Ramoundos (4-0) recorded one save in 59 minutes in goal for the Gulls. She only allowed one goal the entire tournament and finished with 167 minutes of scoreless play in the cage for the maroon and gold. EMU goalie Becky Nolt registered 14 saves in the loss while Karissa Sauder and Lauren Derstine each had a defensive save. Salisbury outshot the Royals 27-1 and held the advantage in penalty corners, 17-2. The Sea Gulls return to action on Wednesday, September 12, as they host Johns Hopkins University at 5 p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium. NOTES: SUNY Brockport finished the tournament 2-1 as it defeated EMU 3-2 and Denison 2-1. EMU finished the tournament 1-2 with its one win coming against Denison, 4-2. The Big Red was winless in the two-day tournament.
