Invitational with 4-1 win over Denison
SALISBURY, Md. – The
No. 6 Salisbury University field hockey team rebounded from its first loss of
the season with a 4-1 win over Denison in the tournament opener of the 2007
Salisbury University Invitational Saturday morning in front of a crowd of 125.
The Sea Gulls (2-1) controlled the pace of the entire game as they outshot the
Big Red 25-2 and held the advantage in penalty corners, 17-3.
Salisbury scored the game’s first goal off a penalty corner as Michelle Rowe
found Kandice Hancock just 10 and half minutes into the contest.
Denison’s Read Powell answered the Salisbury scoring strike less than two
minutes later as she cashed in on a penalty stroke to knot the score at 1-1.
Beverly Beladino
rounded out the scoring for the Gulls in the first frame as she got her stick on
a Katy Lamboni cross to give SU a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
The Gulls added insurance in the second half as Beladino scored her second goal
of the game off an assist from Lauren Correll. Senior Danielle Twilley
netted her team-high third goal of the season off a corner from Rowe to give SU
the 4-1 victory.
Denison (1-1) goalie Halle Minshall made a game-high seven saves in the losing
effort as Maria Ramoundos picked up her second win of the season.
Salisbury returns to the field at 3 p.m. today as they take on SUNY Brockport in
Game 3 of the SU Field Hockey Invitational.
Note:
Eastern Mennonite and SUNY
Brockport play at 10:30 a.m. and Denison returns to action at 4:45 p.m. as they
take on EMU.
