Springfield stuns Christopher Newport in overtime, will meet Salisbury in third round
SALISBURY, Md. –
The No. 14 Springfield College field hockey team upset No. 6 Christopher Newport University 2-1 in the first overtime of Saturday's NCAA Division III second round game held at Sea Gull Stadium on the campus of Salisbury University.

In the first overtime period with the score locked at 1-1 the Pride (21-3) lined up for a penalty corner opportunity, when junior Allie Eisele put in the game-winning goal off an Eileen Jenkins pass. Springfield advances to the third round (quarterfinals) for the first time since 2005 and will face the host Salisbury University on Sunday, November 11, at 1 p.m. The No. 2 Sea Gulls and Pride have never met.

Springfield's Jane Kelleher scored the Pride's first goal of the game, in the second half, off an Emily Murray assist to tie the game at one and eventually send the game into overtime.

CNU scored the game's first goal 15:52 into the game when Ashley Cybulski tipped in her second goal of the season off the assist from Diana Golden. The Captains finished the season 16-3, the most wins in its history.

Springfield had the only two shots in the overtime period as the Pride outshot the Captains 12-9. CNU drew more penalty corners in the second half, 7-5, but Springfield held the overall advantage 13-9. The Pride also played the entire game with their starting line-up. Pride goalie Emma Kaplan made four saves in the win while Elexa Nosonchuk stopped six shots in the loss.
