SU remains
at No. 3 in STX/NFHCA poll
GLEN ALLEN, Va. -
The Salisbury
University field hockey team remained at the same spot in the latest STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll released Tuesday as
the Sea Gulls are still No. 3 in the country.
Salisbury (16-1, 6-0 Capital Athletic Conference) earned a total of 523 points
and one first-place vote as SU remains behind No. 1 Bowdoin College (14-0) and
No. 2 Lebanon Valley College (19-0), who are both unbeaten. SU only trails LVC
by a total of 25 points and six first-place votes.
The Sea Gulls earned the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the CAC tournament.
SU will meet University of Mary Washington in the semifinals on Halloween night
(Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium. SU ended its regular season last
week with a 3-1 over former CAC member Catholic University of America.
Ursinus College (16-2), the defending national champions, and The College of New
Jersey (9-2) round out the top five spots in the rankings. Ursinus moved up to
No. 4 after it beat former No. 4 Christopher Newport University, 1-0, last week.
CNU moved back to No. 6 in the polls. Ursinus and TCNJ also received one
first-place vote. The Captains from CNU are the lone team to defeat SU this
season, 2-1 on the road, on September 5. The Gulls have ripped off 15 straight
wins since that set back.
