SU
moves up to No. 3 in STX/NFHCA poll
GLEN ALLEN, Va.
- The Salisbury University field hockey team moved up one spot in the latest STX/National
Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III coaches' poll released Tuesday as
the Sea Gulls are now No. 3 in the country.
Salisbury (11-1, 3-0 CAC) earned a total of 681 points and three first-place
votes as SU fell short of No. 2 The College of New Jersey (9-1) by only 24
points. The Sea Gulls and the Lions meet up this week as Salisbury travels to
Ewing, N.J., to collide with New Jersey in a meeting of the nation's No. 2 and
No. 3 teams on Saturday evening. The game will be the 32nd meeting between the
two schools with TCNJ leading the all-time series 21-10-1.
The maroon and gold moved up in the polls because defending national champions
and former No. 1 Ursinus College (8-2) lost to No. 18 Franklin & Marshall
University (8-3), 3-2, last weekend. The new No. 1 team is now Bowdoin College
(9-0) who received 32-of-40 first-place votes. Lebanon Valley College
and Christopher Newport University round out the top 5 in the rankings while Ursinus is now ranked No. 6.
Before SU travels to TCNJ the Gulls will host Hood College today (Tuesday) at
Sea Gull Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Hood and Salisbury will be meeting for only the
third time ever and this will be the first ever meeting with the Blazers in the
Capital Athletic Conference.
