Graves
leads men to second place finish, women take fourth
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Eric
Graves ran away
from the competition on Saturday morning at the DeSales Invitational as the
senior finished in first-place by over 20 seconds to lead the Salisbury
University men's cross country team to a second place finish.
Graves ran the 8K race in 26:23.87 to finish at the top of a field
of over 180 student-athletes. Fellow senior Buck Stokes finished 12th
overall with a time of 27:23.08. Junior Zack Dickerson and freshman
Sam Boimov both finished in the top 20 as the two Sea Gulls finished 17th
and 20th, respectively.
Dickerson ran a
27:32.64 while Boimov crossed the finish line at 27:56.97. Junior Ben Thomas
rounded out the top five for the men with a 26th place finish in a time of
28:08.50.
The women finished fourth overall and they were led by junior Kelly Sullivan
who placed ninth with a time of 24:39.10 in the 6K race. Senior Zuzka
O’Zwoldike finished second for SU, 25th overall, with a time of 25:19.58.
Junior Jenn Bulger, senior Lauren DePaul and junior Amy
DeMichele all earned points as they finished in 35th, 38th and 46th place
each, respectively. Bulger ran a 25:47.10, DePaul a 25:50.67 and DeMichele a
26:09.18 to help secure the top five finish for the women.
The men were edged out of first-place by a mere point by The College of New
Jersey. The Sea Gull men held off Swarthmore, Muhlenberg and DeSales who
finished third, fourth and fifth. St. Thomas (Minn.) took first place honors on
the women's side while Washington and Lee and Muhlenberg finished ahead of SU.
The
cross country teams return to action next week in its final tune up before the
Capital Athletic Conference championships as it travels to Elizabethtown, Pa.,
to take part in the Elizabethtown Invitational on Saturday, October 20, at 10
a.m.
