no-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed just three hits in 7 1/3 innings
while striking out four. Junior righthander Greg Lasinski (1-0) worked
out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the eighth, and freshman Tom Howell
registered his second save by preserving the win in the ninth inning. Salisbury (4-2 overall) scored the game’s only run with
three hits off Chowan starter John Pauls (2-1) in the eighth inning. Sophomore
RF Jason Lively (2-for-4) singled with one out, stole second, and scored
on Pegelow’s two-out single to centerfield.
Junior 3B David Sutton (1-for-3) followed with another single,
pushing Pegelow into scoring position, but Pauls worked out of further trouble
by inducing freshman LF Alex Vitale (1-for-3) to fly out. Howell retired the first two Chowan hitters in the ninth
before walking Howlin, who then advanced to second on a passed ball.
Matt Dize then grounded to shortstop Brandon Mason, who bobbled
the ball momentarily, but recovered in time to throw home where catcher BJ
Kittle applied the game-ending tag on Howlin. Salisbury is back in action tomorrow with a 3 pm game at
