Brandon Mason  (1982 - 2004)

The Sea Gull Athletics family mourns the passing of Brandon Mason, a two-year starter as a shortstop on the baseball team.

Brandon passed away on Friday, August 20 in an automobile accident in his hometown of Boyertown, PA. He was scheduled to begin his senior year at Salisbury University later this month.

Brandon joined the Gulls as a transfer prior to the start of the 2003 season and started 86 of 95 games for Salisbury during the past two years.

Brandon earned second team all-Capital Athletic Conference honors in 2003 while finishing with a .292 batting average. He led the team in runs scored (42), walks (28) and steals (10) that season while finishing second on the team with 154 at-bats.

This past season, Brandon finished with a .352 average while playing in 47 of the team's 50 games. He helped Salisbury capture the 2004 CAC Championship, NCAA South Region Championship, and earn a trip to the Division III World Series.

Brandon was majoring in physical education. He was 21 years old.

Statement from SU Head Coach Doug Fleetwood:
"Brandon was an outstanding baseball player who brought energy to the field each and every day. He played the game the way its supposed to be played. He was a great kid from a great family. We're going to miss him."
