Sea Gulls shutout Ducks to win third straight
SALISBURY, Md. -
The 26th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team stayed hot through the cold weekend as it won its third game in a row by shutting out Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-0, at Sea Gull Field.

Salisbury (3-1) starting pitcher Ryan Bennick went six innings, struck out five batters and allowed only three hits to pick up his first win of the season. Dan Oleynik closed the door on the Ducks (0-1) as he threw the final three innings to earn the save.

Bennick received run support early as senior centerfielder Colin Kraus opened the game with a double down the right field line. He later scored on double-steal that involved senior Andrew Jensen.

The Sea Gulls tacked on another run in the fourth inning as catcher Pete Callahan doubled home junior Justin Arminger to push the Salisbury lead to two.

The fifth inning saw Salisbury strike again as junior shortstop Brian Camper scored on a two-out single by Jensen. Arminger scored again in the sixth inning on a groundout by Camper to extend the SU lead to 4-0.

Salisbury added one more insurance run in the eighth when Camper scored his second run of the afternoon on a single by junior second baseman Mark Bostwick.

Stevens Tech starter Scott Picerno (0-1) pitched five innings and allowed three runs in the loss.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Tuesday, February 20, as they travel to Newport News, Va., to face Christopher Newport University.
