SU will
hit the road for opening round of CAC tourney
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -
The Salisbury University baseball team will open up the 2007 Capital Athletic
Conference tournament in a different surrounding, on the road, for the
first-time during Coach Doug Fleetwood's era. The Sea Gulls (22-7, 5-5 CAC), the
No. 4 seed and defending CAC champions, will travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, April 17, to face No. 3
seed Catholic University (15-16, 6-4 CAC) for a 3:30 p.m. game.
The
winner of this opening round game will face the winner between No. 2 seed
University of Mary Washington and No. 5 seed St. Mary's (Md.) College on
Thursday, April 19, at the higher remaining seed in the double-elimination
tourney. Salisbury and Catholic split their two-game series during the regular
season.
York
(Pa.) College earned the No. 1 seed and will serve as the host for the weekend
games. The Spartans (22-6, 8-2 CAC) edged out the Eagles (21-7-1, 8-2 CAC) for
the top seed.
Since
Fleetwood took over the reigns at Salisbury, in 2001, the Gulls have been the
No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. The Sea Gulls have won six
conference titles, four under Fleetwood.
