Former Sea
Gulls continue in professional ranks
SALISBURY, Md. –
Four former Salisbury
University baseball players continued their playing days at the professional
ranks this past summer as Bryan Brainer, Greg Lasinski, Greg
Lemon and Cory Willey all competed in different leagues.
Willey, a standout pitcher from 2002-03, is on the Clearwater Thrashers class A
advanced Florida state league roster and has posted a 2-1 record with the club.
A former All-Capital Athletic Conference performer, Willey had a stint in Double
A after the All-Star Break. For the Thrashers he has posted a 7-2 record with a
2.37 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched. Willey holds the Salisbury
career record for saves (11). In his two-year career with the Gulls he recorded
a 12-5 record with 179 strikeouts.
Lemon was an All-American in his final season with Salisbury in 2006 and ranks
among the all-time SU leaders in virtually every batting category. The former
shortstop/second basemen played with the St. George RoadRunners of the Golden
Baseball League. He batted a team-high .380 in 22 games with 12 RBI and five
stolen bases. The Wilmington, Del., native ranks first all-time at SU in runs
scored (193), first in doubles (50) and first in walks (95).
Lasinksi became the first SU All-American since 1988 as he finished his Sea Gull
career with an 18-5 record and 136 strikeouts in 2005. He is currently on the
Slippery Rock Sliders roster of the Frontier League. In 30 games this year he
made a team-high 10 saves and recorded 20 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. Last
season he played with the River City Rascals.
Brainer finished his SU career in 2007 and wasted no time continuing his career.
He currently plays for the New Haven County Cutters of the Can Am League and has
a 2-2 record with a 6.27 ERA. In 37.1 innings of work he has only allowed three
home runs while he has recorded 19 strikeouts.
From 2001-07 Salisbury has totaled a 215-81-6 record, won five CAC
championships, made seven appearances in the NCAA postseason and advanced to two
NCAA College World Series.
