stifles Mary Washington, 2-0 Salisbury (4-5-1, 2-2 CAC) held Mary Washington (4-8-1, 3-3 CAC) to just three first half shots en route to a 2–0 shutout and its second Capital Athletic Conference victory. In front of a large crowd, the Sea Gulls controlled play as they only conceded only one shot on goal and no corner kicks. For the Gulls on offense, juniors Robyn Bishop and Kate Weaver found the back of the net with unassisted goals. Bishop notched her second goal of the season, and eventual game-winner, in the 41st minute to put Salisbury up 1-0 headed into halftime. In the second half, Weaver scored her eighth goal of the season with less than nine minutes left in the match on a shot past UMW goalie Laura McCarthy (two saves). Weaver’s team leading eight goals is also ranked second overall in the conference. Senior goalie Samantha Phipps made one save to record her first shutout. The Sea Gulls recorded eight shots and five corner kicks. The Eagles lone shot on goal came from sophomore Alia Lanewala. Salisbury continues CAC play in the coming weeks as the postseason nears. SU hosts Marymount on Tuesday, October 10th and St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday, October 14th. | ||||||||||||||||
