Salisbury drops
third straight, lose in double overtime
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped
its third straight contest Saturday afternoon as the defending Capital Athletic
Conference champions Catholic University of America won 1-0 in double overtime.
The
Sea Gulls were outshot by the Cardinals 15-9, including 5-0 in the two overtime
periods.
The
Cardinals (4-2, 1-0 CAC) had several opportunities to score in the first half,
totaling seven corner kicks (11 for the game), but the Sea Gull defense stood
strong. Senior goalie Samantha Phipps made three first half saves, five
for the entire game.
The
lone goal of the game came in the 106th minute, when Kelly Andersen corralled
teammate Suzie Peters' blocked shot and fired home the game-winner.
Salisbury (1-3-1, 0-1) has now lost two straight to Catholic, after winning
eight straight regular season match-ups dating back to the 1998 season.
The
Sea Gulls return to the field on Wednesday, September 20 as they play host to
the College of Notre Dame at the SU Soccer Complex. The game is set for a 4:30
p.m. start.
