SALISBURY, Md. -
The NCAA committee announced the field of 60 on Monday that will participate in the 2006 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship as 38 teams received automatic bids for winning their conference tournaments and 22 teams received at-large bids.

Salisbury's women's soccer bench jumps for joy.Salisbury University (10-6-1) will face in-state foe Johns Hopkins University (17-2-0), at 5 p.m., Saturday, November 11, at Christopher Newport University in the first round.

This is the first time since 2000 that the Sea Gulls have advanced to the NCAA tournament, while the Blue Jays are making their second straight appearance and fifth overall.  The two teams have met four times on the pitch and both have won twice. The first meeting was in 1994 where Salisbury won 2-0. The two teams last met in 2001 during the regular-season (September 25) in Salisbury as the Blue Jays won 3-2.

The winner of the Salisbury-Johns Hopkins game will face the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan (16-3-2)-Christopher Newport (13-5-1) game at 6 p.m., Sunday, November 12. CNU is one of the host sites for the first and second rounds. The Sea Gulls have already faced Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport this season, both of whom defeated Salisbury, 2-0 and 4-1, respectively.

Salisbury advanced to the NCAA tournament with a 4-0 win over St. Mary’s in the CAC title game to earn the automatic bid. The third-seeded Sea Gulls beat Marymount 1-0 in the first round and Catholic 2-0 in the semifinals and St. Mary's to win the CAC. Kate Weaver netted all four goals against St. Mary’s to lead Salisbury to victory. The Blue Jays won the Centennial Conference to advance to the NCAA postseason.

The Sea Gulls are the only team from the CAC to make the NCAA tournament but Villa Julie College, who will become a full-member in the CAC next season, will face the College of Notre Dame (Md.) in the first round.
