Salisbury wins emotional game versus Gallaudet
SALISBURY, Md. –
The volleyball match between Salisbury University and Gallaudet University took nearly two hours to decide, as it went to a fifth game, but in the end the Sea Gulls came away with an emotional 3-2 victory on Tuesday night inside the Maggs Center.

Sophomore Stacey Krebs hammered her 16th kill of the match off a Gallaudet block, that went out-of-bounds, to seal the win for the Sea Gulls (12-7) who improve to 2-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The Sea Gulls won the second, third and fifth games; 27-30, 30-23, 30-26, 23-30, 15-12.

Gallaudet (12-4, 2-1) suffered its first loss in CAC play this season as the Bison had defeated the Sea Gulls five days ago, here, in the 2006 Salisbury Invitational, 3-1.

The Sea Gulls staved off a Bison rally in the fifth game, led by senior Tamijo Foronda and junior Kristina Burke, with timely hits and great ball placement on the court.

Salisbury senior Abbey Petrecca recorded a team high 45 assists, sophomores Jaime Marzocchi and Krebs had 24 digs apiece, sophomore Lucy Rushing and freshman Nicole Massarelli threw down 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Bison and Sea Gulls went back-and-fourth in the first game as it was tied 26 all before the Bison put the game away, 30-27.

In the second game, Salisbury broke open a 15 all tie to win going away 30-23 followed by a strong 30-26 victory in the third game. Gallaudet forced a fifth and deciding game with a 30-23 win in the fourth game.

SU has now won five of the past seven meetings with Gallaudet since 2003.

Salisbury will now travel north to Boston where the Sea Gulls will participate in the Tufts Invitational that begins Friday, September 29.
