Salisbury off to strong start at Battlefield Classic
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -
The Salisbury University volleyball team marched into the 2007 Battlefield Classic here Friday at Gettysburg College and came away with two victories. The Sea Gulls defeated Eastern Mennonite University and Lycoming College by the same 3-0 score.

Junior outside hitter Stacey Krebs made her '07 debut with 17 kills against EMU. Fellow junior Stephanie Withers added 12 kills and setter Jaime Marzocchi recorded 24 assists. Sophomore Gabby Long made 17 digs as the Gulls won 30-19, 34-32, 30-15.

In the second match of the evening the maroon and gold overmatched Lycoming as SU won 30-15, 30-10, 30-22. The Sea Gulls (5-1) got seven kills apiece from Krebs, Jessica Powell and Nicole Massarelli. Marzocchi had 17 assists in the victory.

The Battlefield Classic continues Saturday as the 18-team field gets back to action. SU plays in one of the winning pools and will face Johns Hopkins University and Elizabethtown College. SU lost a tough match to JHU last Saturday 3-2.
